Justify why a physician’s practice or hospital may choose cloud
computing over onsite servers. Are there any drawbacks to using a
cloud
environment over traditional servers? Explain.
A physician’s practice or hospital may choose cloud computing over onsite servers;
As a cloud-based computing is more secure when it comes to maintaining the confidentiality of the medical records is concerned.
Reduced IT Requirements as the cloud-based server makes it easy to add new users, doctors or locations without going through the hassle of contacting an in-house IT team to performing the tasks.
Increased accessibility as the patient data stored on cloud-based systems can be accessed from tablets, PCs or Macs, and is not dependent on a specific location or server.
It is cheaper; as it does not require the installation of specific hardware and software.
There is a reduction in the carbon footprint, as it is immediately amplified because of the cloud computing global reach.
The disadvantage of cloud computing is the vendor lock i.e. deep-rooted differences between vendor systems making it impossible to migrate from one cloud platform to another
