Recount the significant events of Muhammad’s “Night Journey” or Miraj. What does this story tell us about the significance of Muhammad in Islam?
The significant events of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) “Night Journey” or Miraj are the fact that the Prophet (PBUH) led other prophets in prayer in the mosque of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and he then ascended to the heavens in the Mi'raj. The ark angel Gabriel took the Prophet (PBUH) to the heavens and he met several great Prophets in the different heavenly spheres. Finally, when he reached the highest point in the heavens and he was graced with an experience of the Divine Presence. The Prophet (PBUH) received a number of directives during Miraj such as Prayers that were made obligatory five times a day. Payers are considered the Miraj of believers as according to the saying of the Prophet (PBUH) we should offer prayer in such as sincere way that we can we can `see´ the God or at least know and believe with total and absolute conviction that the God Most Majestic can and does See us. This can of sincere prayer connects us to God and makes us evolve and it was the biggest achievement of Miraj.
