7-9. Give two (2) piping materials with their corresponding schedule # and its application that is available in market today?
10. Give one (1) standard used for piping materials and state one (1) provision regarding that standard?
A pipe is a cylindrical or tubular sections which mainly used to convey flowing substances like gases, liquid or any fluids. It can be or can't be circular cross-sections. Pipes are also used in diffrent applications like structural work, building constructions, raiwater disposal, water supply, waste and daianage, drinking water supply system.
The two main types of pipes used in market are below:
1) Cast Iron Pipes:-
These pipes are mainly used for rainwater , waste draining systerm from so many decades. They are made by grey cast iron by sand casting process. They are mainly avilabe in market in 2m ,1.8m and 1.5m length and their normal thickness range is 5-6mm.
For good strength like steel pipes and durability like cast iron ductile cast iron pipes are also available nowadays in the market. But they are more expensive and hences used mainly specific applications.
2) Plastic Pipes:- Plastic pipes are mainly used in building construction work. They are less expansive and mainly avilable in three catogaries uses according to their area of aplications.
Standards for piping materials:-
Piping standards of materials define the compositional properties of the materials being used for piping according to the area of application of the pipe Like melting point temperarture resistant quality in case of hot fluid tranfer from the pipe, insulating capacity of material etc. The ASTM standards are mainly directed for material and theire strength considerations.
ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials):- American Society for Testing and Materials is an international standards organization that develops and work on testing and material designation. One of the provision of ASTM standard E384 is Standard Test Method for Microindentation Hardness of Materials.
