What was the necessity of the creation of the Greek pantheon on gods and goddesses?
The word pantheon is a Greek refers to all gods of a particular culture. Pan means all and theoi means gods (gods and goddesses), In time the Greek mythology became European culture, Greek civilization is one of the oldest civilization, it is passed on from one generation to another and when the expression was exhibited either in the form of animals, human or natures form these mythological stories were written down, It rolls back to two civilizations that flourished 1100 B.C.
There are twelve principle deities consists of six gods and six goddesses. They are Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Athena Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Hermes, and either Hestia or Dionysus. These gods and goddesses actually represent different expression and qualities of human beings. Like Zeus was known as Jupiter in Roman is the king of all the Gods, protector of justice and social welfare. Aphrodite (Venus) represents love and beauty. Ares (Mars) the god of war.
Same way different god represents different nature their name suggests for what they belong to that means total nature is depicted by their qualities, giving punishment for wrongdoings or rewarding for good virtues. The soil grain, industry, wisdom, warfare, crime, earth, sea, mountains etc. are represented by a different god or goddess. These mythological gods were created to represents the human behavior like getting a reward for good virtue. Sea, grain, soil gives food and wealth so it became worthy of praying so they got the name of God. It represents the human nature of greediness and fear, Kroon’s and Zeus eating up of their children because they were frightened of being overthrown by their children as they were supposed to be very bright and brave. This mythology represents adultery looked at as a negative for both male and female, but the human lust supersedes as shown by the character of Zeus who had many affairs both with the human and other goddesses.
The Greek god and goddess had awesome power beauty but in action, they represent different human characters, they often leave their abode and come to the mortal world interacting with man and women as their guardian protector, they exhibit expressions such as jealousy, passion, pride, love, and revenge.
Beside the main twelve deities, they were having other subsidiary deities too. Actually, these pantheons represent human characters and behaviors.
