1. break down a television set into the 5 inventory categories (raw materials, work-progress, finished goods, goods in transit, annd returns)

Solutions

Expert Solution

A televison is made up of number of things.Let us break those as asked.

1)Raw Material:

Metals(this also depends upon what type of Television being produces the metals used may include copper, quartz, iron, gold, platinum, and silver in its parts.)

Glass(depends on what kind of television being made),

Fluorescent chemical coatings, solder, and silicon. All these are used to make varios parts of television.

2) Work in progress means partially finished goods waiting to move into completion stage.

In case of television ,work in progress is All parts are being made but assembling it yet to be done or it can be said the parts are reavy but it has not been given final touch to form television.

3)Finished Goods:

These are those goods which are complete ready to sold or the goods that has passed manufacturing process and is yet to be sold to cutomer.Hence in case of Television it can be said as the Television set made ,final product is ready just the nesxt level that is selling is left.

4)Goods in transit:

These can be said as the goods that has left the seller but has not reached the buyer. In this case their are two possibilities firstly goods can be in transit while delivering to warehouse or the dealers or it can be in transit before reaching the final customer.Hence unless the final buyer whether it's customer or dealer don't recive the television sets and also the sets have left the manufacturers then it will be said as goods in transit.

5)Return:

When a customer return the Television set or a Dealer does the same due to certain issue and it reaches the point of return then this stage is called return.purchased goods returned by the user is called as return ,hence when one bought the television set and after delivery and all if someone return it due to any reason then it is called return.

Businesses hold inventories of goods, partly as finished products and partly as goods-in-process and raw materials. Suppose that we think of inventories as a type of capital, which enters into the production function. Then changes in these stocks represent investment in inventories. (Typically, economists assume that the rate of depreciation on inventories is near zero.) How does an increase in the real interest rate affect the quantity of inventories that businesses want to hold? What happens, therefore, to inventory investment?...
