Elinor Nunes has a normal workweek of 35 hours and is paid $675.50 each week. Find her gross earnings if she works 42 hours one week and is paid time and a half for all hours worked above 40.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer

Number of hours worked in a week = 35 hours

Payment made for 35 hours in a week = $675.50

Earning per hour = $675.50 / 35

= $19.30

She has worked for 42 hours in a week. So she will be paid $19.30 per hour for 40 hours and 1.5 times of $19.30 per hour for 2 hours (hours in excess of 40 hours).

Gross Earnings = ( $19.30 * 40 ) + ( 1.5 * $19.30 * 2 )

= $772 + $57.90

= $829.90
