Linear-buckling analysis also known as eigenvalue buckling or Euler buckling analysis .
This analysis predicts the theoretical buckling strength of an elastic structure. The values of load are given in the form of eigen values at which buckling takes place. Eigenvectors are buckling shapes associated with the corresponding eigenvalues.
The advantages and disadvantages of employing symmetry when preforming a buckling analysis in ANSYS are illustrated below:
Advantages:
1) Long columns failed due to buckling so their buckling analysis can easily be done. symmetry in columns helps in proper meshing and produce desired results.
2) Bending moment and deflections can be found and analyzed if proper symmetry of a member is given.
3)The iterations takes less time for nice symmetrical members.
4) Less convergent error
5)Finite element method works easily
Disadvantages:
1)Symmetry may not work well for complex geometries
2) Irregular mesh nodes are formed at sharp corners.
3)Time consumption in post processing of a model.
