What does settlement life tell us about the changing relations of educated middle-class women to their families and communities at the turn of the twentieth century?
Here we start with the defination of middle class ,its the class which stands between the highest & the lower strata of society , it may be said that the above class is of great capalist & the below are the social group , the proletariat , the class of wage- working groups , or the people with medium income groups.
It had been recognised that working class women participated in waged labour .It depended on the martial status , stage in family cycle & the society.Middle class womens role in the economic growth had a hidden role.
The women became increasingly associated with the private rerealms of home & the family. as thought in the centuries ofthe ideology , that women should not earn a living& amarried women to be dependend on her husband & the women more or less confined to domesticity& social & economic dependence on male relative or partner.
In years , the studies reveal that number of modifications to the standards of images of women have changed as they had entered in the feild of education , medicine , politics, & even in the local government created a space themselves.
How ever the middle class women has emphasised the diverse composition of this group & the divergences of wealth, power & status . the clas had reflected inthe culture & the social world.
In the century there was an intense & rapid change in industralization was brought up & there was a resurgence in the the enforcement & belief in classical or traditional roles. tThe modern feminist movement was gaining momentum with its advocacy for suffrage.With more education ,more women were allowed to participate in society . The success in women colleges germinated the idea of more professional education for women in the field of lecturers, doctors, scientists, lawers, & others where their roles were as equal to males.
At one stage voting rights were denied , asthey believed women were not capable of understanding all the ramifications of the situations , & logical reasons were not seen in their nature. Finally the voice to allow women voting & had a voice in goverment decision , began to act in politics, introducing moral legislation which advocated in the labor law , child labor laws.
All these factors changed the middle class women to bring up their families & in communities , there fore setteling their life.
