Answer
There are certain criteria which will help you pass the Indiana
plagiarism test. Such as:
1. The overview of the decision rules:
- Does your version borrow ideas from someone else's
original source material? YES/NO
- Is there any sort of direct word-for-word quote of 7 or
more words taken from the original source?YES/NO
- Is the direct word-for-word quote missing Quotation
marks? YES/NO
- Is the direct word-for-word quote missing full in-text
citation that includes a specific locator? YES/NO
- Is the direct word-for-word quote missing
reference? YES/NO
- Is the paraphrased idea missing in-text
citation? YES/NO
- Is the paraphrased idea missing reference?
YES/NO
If the answer is
YES, then it is either word-for-word or paraphrased
plagiarism. If the answer is NO, then it is not
plagiarised.
2. There are also certain points that you must keep in mind.
Such as:
- If both kinds of plagiarism i.e. word-for-word plagiarism and
paraphrasing plagiarism are present in an example, then you must
choose word-for-word as a correct answer.
- Be very careful while identifying if any example includes a
string of 7 or more words in sequence taken from the source, or
paraphrase without citation. Sometimes, it will be paraphrased
correctly, quoted correctly, and cited correctly but if it includes
7 or more words in sequence from the source, it is
plagiarised.
These are the criteria which will help you to decide if
a student version is word-for-word plagiarism, paraphrasing
plagiarism, or not plagiarism. Hence, you should apply when taking
an Indiana University Plagiarism test.
