No-fault insurance is a type of auto insurance coverage that helps one to pay for self and passengers' medical bills if one is  injured in a car accident, regardless of the fact that who has caused the accident. No-fault insurance is also said as personal injury protection, or PIP insurance.

In no-fault , the injured party in an auto accident is required to  first present a claim under his own insurance company’s PIP (Personal Injury Protection) coverage. PIPis obliged to pay for medical expenses, wage loss, and miscellaneous expenses associated with the injury and treatment.

Tort liability comes into play when one is seriously injured or when the medical expenses are very huge,an injured party can pursue a claim directly against the driver who was faulty  and his insurance company.
