Caterpillar, whose overseas workforce grew by 39 percent between 2005 and 2010, compared to a 7.8 percent U.S. increase, is now making insourcing moves. In last few years, Caterpillar have announced large investments in U.S. facilities.

After decades of watching American companies take jobs overseas, we're beginning to see entrepreneurs and manufactures make the decision to keep factories and production facilities here in the United States—and even expand their American operations. That's insourcing.

Caterpillar decided to backshore compact engine manufacturing from Japan to Victoria, Texas due to unpredictable and increasingly unfavorable tax policies and loosening intellectual property protection in the host country.

It has announced the reshoring of manufacturing and services jobs. Hence though Caterpillar was big on outsourcinf till 2010, in recent years it is one of the quick movers to shift focus on insourcing.
