First of all telecommunication is anything that involves transfer of data or information between two points. (even more than 2 points in present days)

For example,

(a) in olden days (late 1800's) the communication used to be done using the telegraphs which are electrical systems. 1.They transferred data using huge lines between two points.

2.The signals used here are electrical signals only.

(b) Then came the radio and TV. Which used analog signals to transmit the data using different techniques.

1.In radio, AM is used at the initial stages which means the information was present on the amplitude of the signal being transmitted.

2.Next came FM radios. Which used FM MODULATION technique. Means the frequency used to contain the information. Television used to have huge antennas to receive the these signals,also the mobiles used to have antennas attached to them to receive these signals. (1G)

(c) Next came the satellite broadcasting. Which used digital techniques like Pulse modulation. In this the analog signal was converted to digital samples.

1.the data in digital communication is in the form of internet packets.

2.After digital revolution came, 2G 3G 4G and even 5G are being used for transfer of information using different techniques. At present we are using VoIP in mobile communications for transfer of data.

Benefits : Due to this evolution of telecommunications..

1.Data is being transferred at faster rate. (almost 1Gbit/s)

2.Long distance communication. (able to talk to the person in US or to the person in almost any corner of this earth and also out of earth)

3.Power used to transfer is reduced.

4.The noise is conservatively reduced.

5.Quality of transfer of data is improved.

6.Huge reduction in sizes of telecommunication systems.

Of the most due to this evolution, the communication is at the tip of our fingers.
