Discuss Chinese Folk Song and examples of how it is both historical and current
Chinese folk songs have been dated at least 7000 years back. It has predominantly descended from temple music of Beijing, Xi'an, Wutai Shan, and Tianjin. They are melodious and use more percussive and wind instruments. Most of these songs focus on how the form is expressed. It typically involves a love-stricken female and her feelings. All of the songs historically were sorrowful and felt along the lost love vibes.
How it is relevant in the current period is the way it has influenced jazz and western music. Techniques such as syncopation and triple time have been inspired by the Chinese folk music. The use of percussions as well as flutes are a hit among westerners and are increasingly used in meditation and soulful music. Any spa-ambiance will have Chinese folk music background to give serenity naturally to the atmosphere.
This shows that the Chinese folk songs are still relevant in spite of being very old and of great historical value.
