Type a 500-600 word response to this topic below:

Diversity is important in the immune system. In the T cell compartment, we have diversity in the T cell receptors. We also have diversity in the MHC compartment.  Describe the diversity that exists in humans in relation to MHC and in your response consider this diversity not only in the context of the individual but also in the context of the population and what benefits MHC diversity brings to the individual and to the population.

1. Compare and Contrast T cell receptors and B cell receptors, show their similarities and differences.

2. Write a 150 word piece that relays the key and important aspects of your compare and contrast exercise, T cell receptors and B cell receptors.

Solutions

Expert Solution

The MHC of the individual is only a small fraction of the MHC of population diversity. Each human being has MHC class I – Includes HLA A,B and C ; MHC class II includes HLA DP,DQ and DR.An individual expresses 6 different class I MHC molecules and 12 different class II MHC molecules. MHC genes are co-dominantly expressed ,and so the MHC heterozygote individual present more peptides to the immune system than the homozygous individual. Genes encoding MHC molecules are polymorphic in nature that shows pathogen coevolution, that gives rise to large MHC population diversity rather than MHC diversity in individuals.

Tcell and B cell receptors

T cell receptors

B cell receptors

1)These are protein present on the surface of the t cells

2)It can recognize an antigen only when it is binded to the MHC molecule

3)It is a heterodimer

4)Requires MHC to display processed antigen

5)CD3 is the CD marker present

6)Involves in cell mediated immune response

7)IgM is absent

8)C3 complement receptors are absent

9)It is a lymphocyte

10)Produced in bone marrow

1)Located on the outer surface of the b cells

2)Tranfers signals into the b cell when recognizes antigen

3)It is heterodimer

4)It does not requires MHC to display processed antigen

5)CD19 is the cell surface marker.

6)Involves in humoral cell response

7)IgM is present on the surface

8)C3 complement receptors are present

9)It is a lymphocyte

10)Produced in bone marrow

T cell receptors are protein present on the surface of the T lymphocytes, they recognize antigen with the help of MHC molecules .It has CD3 marker .It involves in cell mediated immune response .It recognize ,binds and adherse to the antigen.

B cell receptors are located on b lymphocytes ,they does not require MHC molecule to recognize the antigen ,it itself detects and transfers the signal. It controls the activation of the b cells , It gather and grab antigens by releasing biochemical signals .It tranducts signals to present the antigen to t helper cells .

Include the branch(es) of the immune system which would mount the response, how that response would be mounted, and the major effector functions that would be observed.
