Solutions

Expert Solution

Crisis counseling would be provided with immediate effect. Making individuals and groups relaxed as they are concerning a lot of stress. Emotional support is very important. There is a need to

  • Assess the whole situation- What happened and at what level people are feeling the traumatic stress.
  • Acceptance and education- People who have directly witnessed the shooting should be educated about their current feeling and make them realize the need for improvement.
  • Offering support- Unintentional and empathetic approach. Family members are also asked to provide support.
  • Establishment of coping skills- Individuals will be asked to think positively, rationally and be optimistic about life.

Treatment Plan

  • Making people aware of their experience and their feeling. Show empathy towards their current feelings. This is done in a large group setting.
  • Sessions of meditation and relaxation for half an hour daily.
  • Individuals share their experiences and how they are improving. This is done in a group environment so that it motivates other individuals.
  • People who are observed to be emotionally disturbed and vulnerable - they should be provided psychotherapy [min thrice a week- depending upon the intensity of trauma]

[ The groups would be divided separately like students, staff and community members]

  • At the weekend- sessions are conducted on an individual level and group level to develop coping strategies and managing emotions.- This involves keeping busy in doing the interesting activity, family interaction, going out for movies, meeting friends, etc
