The dosing average of a pain relieving drug to cause drug induced mood disorder is claimed to be less than 35.27 mg. To verify the claim, the dosage levels of 12 patients who reported mood disorders upon taking the drug is collected. The sample is shown below. 38.28 , 38.88 , 35.06 , 36.05 , 29.03 , 31.17 , 34.58 , 33.46 , 34.12 , 35.84 , 35.1 , 37.5 Using a level of significance of 0.2, perform a one sample t-test and answer the questions associated with this problem. None of the assumptions of a t-test are violated by the sample. Choose closest answer wherever necessary.

Identify the definition of this test.

A. H0 : µ > 35.27 H1 : µ < 35.27

B. H0 : µ ? 35.27 H1 : µ < 35.27

C. H0 : p = 35.27 H1 : p 6= 35.27

D. H0 : µ ? 35.27 H1 : µ < 35.27

E. H0 : µ < 35.27 H1 : µ < ?34.27

What is the test statistic (closest answer)? A. -3.5 B. -0.43 C. -4.75 D. -1.09 E. -1.28

What is the critical value for this test? A. -2.97 B. -0.56 C. -2.31 D. -0.88 E. -1.69

What is the p-value for this test? A. 0.4171 B. 0.9145 C. 0.6252 D. 0.0204 E. 0.3377

sychiatric side effects (PSEs) can be Induced by the pharmacological treatment of physical Illnesses. The clinical presentation of PSEs often resembles spontaneous psychiatric syndromes (ie, noniatrogenic, naturally occurring diseases). PSEs can occur at usual doses, in cases of intoxication, or during the days following withdrawal of a given treatment. PSEs range from short-lasting anxiety to severe confusion, and alleged cases of suicide have even been reported.

The Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV)1 defines some dozens of categories of PSE, according to the disorder and to the incriminated substance, eg, “persisting dementia induced by sedatives, hypnotics or anxiolytics.” The DSM-IV categories include drugs for therapeutic purposes, medication taken abusively, and other substances. The International Classification of Diseases2is very similar to DSM-W in its categorization, with minor differences in terms of category codes.

The challenge of PSEs in everyday practice is the difficulty in recognizing these frequent and potentially dangerous situations. The diagnosis of PSEs raises the same questions as the diagnosis of any psychiatric sign or symptom, which means that the clinician has to consider a rather long list of differential diagnoses.

The following concepts refer to PSEs, as well as to other kinds of side effects:

  • Exposure: The period of time the patient receive
