Identify and explain each of the various economic and political "reforms" of the "Progressive" era. Explain thoroughly.

Progressive era refers to the period which started by the end of 19th century and continued upto first decade of 20th century. Many intellectuals and reformers suggested many political and economic reforms to make perceptible changes in laws and regulations.

Political reforms:

• 19th Amendment: Through this amendment, women were provided voting right.
• Initiative: people were given power to start process of forming new law.by keeping it before congress.  
• Referendum: People were asked to vote directly to any proposed law.
• Civil services: reforms in civil services were introduced so that selections could be made only through competitive exam.

Economic reforms :

• Laissez Faire: Economic freedom was demanded and government role in economic actvities was reduced.
• government promised to treat all on equal footings. No economic discrimination.
• Freedom was redefined as economic freedom in form of increasing capabilities of people.
