What is the RxNorm definition, unique identifier and relationship

Solutions

Expert Solution

RxNorm can be defined as a standard nomenclature that has been developed and proposed by the United States National Library of Medicine (NLM) for the wider scope of medications. In this method, the medications are selected to be represented at the level of clinical drug that has been defined as elements, strengths and dose form, the different clinical drugs are represented as the normalized name and then these names are connected to the other widely used drug nomenclature.

Concept Unique Identifier (RxCUI) is an important part of RxNorm that can be defined as a special, unambiguous identified that can be fixed to a certain medicine element using RxNorm and the different elements related to that drugs are connected to it. With the help of RxCUI, one element of RxNorm is connected to the rest of the other elements which are connected to it fr instance the name of the ingredient and then to a certain class.
