A 2.00 m long metal wire is formed into a square and placed in the horizontal xy-plane. A uniform magnetic field is oriented 30 degrees above the horizontal with a strength of 0.344 T. What is the magnetic flux through the square due to this field?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Length L = 2 m

Circumference of the square S = L

                                      4 a = L

From this side of the square a = L / 4

                                            = 0.5 m

Area of the square A = a 2

                               = 0.25 m 2

Magnetic field B = 0.344 T

Angle = 30 o

The magnetic flux through the square due to this field = BA cos (90- )

                                                                             = BA cos 60

                                                                             = 0.043 weber
