2. (a) What is the power and the focal length of the eye when viewing an object 45.0 cm away? (b)
Calculate the power and the focal length of the eye when viewing an object 3.1 m away.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Basically, our Len sin our Eyeball is is Convex type which converges the image to the retina.

So using the Lens formula,

where f = The focal length of the Lens ( in metre )

u = Object disatance from the Lens ( in metre ) ( will be negative since it's other side of lens )

v = Image distance from the Lens ( in metre )

But if we look at the image distance, it is basically the distance between the Lens and Retina doesnot change. Average distance from the Lens to Retina is 2.5 cm

And Power is the inverse of Focal Length,   It's unit is Dioptre ( D )

a. Given , u = 45 cm = - 0.45 m

Substituting,

and Power,

b. Given, u = 3.1 m = -3.1 m

Substituting,

and Power,
