Expert Solution

a. A letter promoting the services of a home repair company that just opened for business

Audience= The audience of this letter will be the prospective customers who will be looking to use the service of home repairing. This could include the households and some businesses who want to use these services.

Mode= This letter should use the direct opening as this is the best method to introduce the proposed services and any new product. The direct method is used when the audience may have a positive attitude towards the subject of the letter

b. An email to campus students announcing that parking fees will increase by $10 to $20 per month.

Audience= The audience of this letter will be the students who come to a college campus by their own vehicles and who are paying the parking fee

Mode- The opening of this letter should be indirect as the indirect method is more suitable where there are greater chances of the opposition to the subject of the letter. As the letter will inform the rise in parking fees, it can have some rift among the students and thus the indirect method is suitable.

c. A memo to staff which details the construction schedule for the cafeteria.

Audience= The audience of this letter will be the staff members who are involved in the construction of the cafeteria.

Mode= A direct mode should be used as it has to be directed and needs prompt action from the audience. A direct method is used when an immediate or clear action or message has to be delivered.
