Explain in detail the pros/cons of gender stereotyping (if any). Do you feel women have any advantages based on their gender?

Answer- Gender stereotypes refer to the simplistic generalizations regarding gender attributes, differences and roles of people or groups. These stereotypes can be negative or positive. But these are only generalizations and its not necessary that these stereotypes will always be true. Dividing work roles based on gender stereotyping is not a wise act. There are some advantages and disadvantages of gender stereotyping that can be described with the help of the following discussion.

Pros of gender stereotyping

• ?Gender stereotyping provides us an ability to take quick decisions. Our judgement based on the stereotype may help us to make a good perception regarding someone.
• It is found that men are more aggressive than women and this helps them to acquire leadership qualities in their professional life.
• It is generally believed that women are more emotional and show empathy towards others. This stereotype helps women to create good rapport with their family and co-workers.
• Women are generally viewed as generous and more caring than men. People with a patient nature can get success in their personal life and professional life.

Cons of Gender Stereotyping

• Gender stereotyping has a negative side also. At workplace, men workers may be seen getting more advantage than women employees. The result may be worst and lead to sexual harassment also.
• Motherhood is considered as the primary duty of a woman. Many organizations do not provide maternity leaves and to their employees and terminate them from their jobs.

I think that women get some advantages based on their gender. People think that women are very soft and fragile, thus they get more moral support and sympathy than men. They also get reservations in buses, metros and other transports. In countries like India, single girl child gets scholarship to complete her education. Despite these advantages, women face some issues of unequality due to gender differences. We can say that there are some pros as well as cons for women based on gender stereotypes.
