1. How did the study begin?

The study began in 1932 to record the history and disease progression on syphilis in black African American subjects in the trial. The study began as a prospective epidemiological study initially 6 month study but it lasted upto 40 years.

2.Where did the study take place

The study took place at Tuskegee Institute ( Today's Tuskegee University) in the region known historically to be black community populated in Macon County, Alabama.

3. Why was the study created?

In 1928 a study of syphilis was conducted on white males and US health services decided to build on the very same study and perform a prospective study to study the syphilis disease progression in the tuskegee region and in particularly on black African American population.

4. Who conducted the study?

The study was conducted by United States Public Heath Service in collaboration with Tuskegee Institute at Alabama.
