Week 11 Discussion
Can you think of a time when you held a belief, but changed it on the basis of new information? How much information did you need to change your mind, and how could you tell that the evidence was strong enough?
This is my personal experience of my belief in god which changed with time and information . I belong to India and a hindu by religion. So my belief in God was really strong during my high school days . But when I joined University for my Graduation my belief in god took a beating slowly I chose physics as my graduation subject .Everyday I was exposed to new information in the classes . Especially in the quantum physics classes which deal with the quantum nature of particles. In the beginning it was difficult for me to accept the things which physics were saying but there were facts with explanation and proved theories . Also we did some experiments in the laboratory . It changed during the final year of graduation .My belief in god totally vanished .I started questioning the existence of a supreme being . This happened because of the information and facts I was provided with . I was seeing the things in reality with proofs where as when it came to god there was no proof of stories and mythological explanations .The evidence was strong enough because it had facts and also explanation of facts with proofs .In the laboratory also there were demonstrations of the things which we studied in the class . I think the quality of information supported by proofs and evidence is more important rather than the amount of information .
