Activity 3-2
Write and compare procedural documents. Write an explanation of the
steps required to
insert a USB flash drive into a USB port. Your explanation should
be aimed at a person who
has never used a computer before.
Exchange explanations with a classmate or coworker and critique
each other’s draft. Did you
include enough information for a user to insert the USB flash drive
correctly? Is your
explanation complete, or did you leave out important information
about the steps? Did you
include extra unnecessary information?
Find an inexperienced user to test your document. Have that person
use your document
without any assistance to see if he or she can perform the task
using only your written
explanation. Revise your instructions based on the peer and user
feedback you receive.
1. Procedural Documents :
A procedural is a set of detailed instructions that tell the reader how to complete a task. Others consider policies and procedures to be interchangeable terms, meaning a list of tasks to complete a goal, whether those are detailed, simple, in a basic list, or set out as a flowchart and procedures are action oriented.
They outline steps to take, and the order in which they need to be taken. They're often instructional, and they may be used in training and orientation. Well-written procedures are typically solid, precise, factual, short, and to the point.
2. Explanation for inserting a USB flash drive into USB port :
The purpose of this instructable is help you not be so
frustrated when plugging in your cables and drives. This is for the
people who bend over and peer into their drive ports and then peek
into their USB plugs followed by some
slight sweating while hoping you are plugging it in correctly. The
frustrating thing is, you are usually right, but because you lack
the confidence to push a little harder and not hurt your plug, you
flip it over a few times before getting it inserted correctly.
Turns out, there is a trick to knowing which way to plug it in!
I have found that there are rare circumstances where this trick doesn’t work. With your new found skills and confidence you will find those rarities easily!
3. Explanations with a classmate or coworker and critique each other’s draft :
Ignoring or failing to build on answers:
If classmate or coworker and critique do not feel like their voices have weight in discussion, their motivation to participate drops. Thus, it is important to acknowledge their contributions, responding enthusiastically when they are insightful (“That’s an excellent point, Sarah; could you elaborate further?”) and pointing out when they contain inaccuracies or problematic reasoning (“Take another look at the article, Tranh; is that really what the author is claiming?”). If you do not wish to play such a directive role yourself – and want them to develop the habit of assessing and responding to one another’s contributions – you can throw their comments back to the class for evaluation (for example, “Do the rest of you agree with John’s recommendation? What would be some possible consequences if this plan of action were followed?”) , A healthy discussion on draft must be there so that they will understand each other.
4. Did i include enough information for a user to insert the USB flash drive correctly?
YES , i include all the necessary information for a user to insert the USB flash drive correctly .
5. Is my explanation complete, or did i leave out important information about the steps?
YES , my explanation is complete and i have leave all the important informations about that.
6. Did i include extra unnecessary information?
NO, there is no need of unnecessary information, because it leads to create more confusion.
7. Find an inexperienced user to test my document. Have
that person use my document
without any assistance to see if he or she can perform the task
using only your written
explanation. Revise my instructions based on the peer and user
feedback i receive.
I find a inexperienced user to test my document and it worked , that person use my document without any assistance and he performed that task with the help of my information above and he gave me great feedback .
