Explain why some alloys’ strength increases with aging then decreases again.
Alloys are defined by the metallic bond character. The strength-ductility-toughness relationship is dependent on the microstructure(and the processing which provides the microstructural variations) and mechanical properties of the mateals forming an alloy. on aging, involing the changes in the microstructural properties of it , it contains approx more than 60% y' phase in cubic shape(y matrix channel) The y matrix channel width increases with aging time.the directional growth of the y' particles is the result of the combined actions of thermodynamics and kinetics. In general,The process of aging can be understand as, firstly the matrix channel present there broadened with age of time then reach max strength, after then on aging it decreases further due to stress rupture, can say the dislocation movement there. Morover, the volume fraction of y' phase reduces with the increasing aging time, which decreases the strengthning effect of the aged alloy as well.
