Augustus's greatest achievement and that of the emperors to follow him was transformation of Rome into in Augustus words a city of m marble. Do contemporary governments place as much value on the creation of public works? Provide an example or two supporting what you see as similarities or differences in this respect between modern rulers and the Roman emperors
The transformation of Rome into a city of marble was indeed a contribution made by Augustus who reigned after his Uncle Julius Caesar. His other projects which were much appreciated by many Romans as well as future rulers were: his focus on re-building roads, major highways, aqueducts, temples, railways, etc. Moreover, besides the infrastructure the ruling of the state, its functioning and the delegation of tasks and responsibilities were also worked upon by him. Some others following his reign were also great contributors to the history of Rome and shaped it as a unique entity that it is today. One such ruler was Vespasian who has primarily been known for his military accomplishments. He also played a crucial role in subverting Jewish revolts in Judea. This level of dedication and work towards the betterment of the nation, not just on paper is something that ancient Roman emperors have done duing their reign and which has not been seen during the works of Modern rulers per se.
