What is your assessment of the Psychoanalytic Approach? What do you see as its strengths and weaknesses?

Sigmund Freud is the pioneer of the Psychoanalytic Approach. Existence/ presence of unconscious feelings, desires and thoughts are the fundamental prerequisite according to Psychoanalytic Approach.

Releasing the repressed feelings and desires and channelising unconscious into conscious is the core facet in this context.

Strengths-

1- Psychoanalytic approach helps to deeply analyse and comprehend the varied desires and feelings.

2- Constructive changes can be initiated in human beings through psychoanalysis.

3- It concentrates on developmental attributes.

4- Gender issues can be better uderstood and dealt with.

5- Biological studies and researches support most of the assertions and bases of psychoanalysis.

6- The complexity of human nature is accepted and then treated.

7- Patients tend to express fully without any kind of interventions.

Weaknesses-

1- Psychoanalytic approach confuses most of the times.

2- Some of the aspects are debatable and questions have been raised by researchers.

3- Some of the submissions by Sigmund Freud do not match with the contemporary times/ world.

4- Major personality disorders cannot be handled well through psychoanalysis.

5- It takes more time and is quite expensive.

6- Patients may sometimes conveyed that they are in the denial mode.

7- There may be inconclusivity in results.
