what do top students do differently? Please respond in 2-3 paragraphs.
Contrary to popular belief, top students do not necessarily perform well because of higher IQs. In fact, there are a set of skills that can explain why the top students get the top marks. One of these factors, in particular, that is more effective to predict academic performance are practice exams. Top students do more practice exams than anyone else. For this, they require to be self-motivated to focus on their goals and self-disciplined to cut out distractions. They also need to be resilience in order to be able to bounce back from adversity.
While it is important to work hard, top students do not solely focus on putting in increased efforts. They combine their efforts with learning the right techniques so that they work hard doing the right things. For instance, practicing tests allows them to be able to use what they remember, as opposed to simply memorizing material. Whereas the majority of students can simply remember information, the top students can use this technique to analyze, evaluate, develop arguments and give the examiner what the examiner wants when they get into the exam room, which is one of the large reasons they get the results they do.
