Information System

Information system generates information from data. Data is in the form of raw materials and it is subjected to some manipulations to generate useful information. A computer based information system is an information system which uses computer technology to aid in decision making. The aspects, concepts or elements of a computer based information system are given below.

1. Hardware

Hardware is a thing which comprises the device like the monitor, processor, printer, and keyboard. All the devices work together to accept, process, show data and information. It is kind of physical technology which works with information. It is commonly referred to as the computer peripherals, these makes the computer sleeker, faster and more user friendly.

2. Software

Software is the programs that allow the hardware to process data. It refers to a set of instructions or programs directing a computer or device to do specific set of tasks. Software is a generic term used to describe scripts, applications, and computer programs. It consists of code written by programmers in any of computer languages which results in carefully organized instructions which the computer will understand and execute.

3. Databases

Databases refer to the gathering of associated files or tables containing related data. A database is place where data were collected and works according to the data. Database contains all the data in whatever form which particular organization wants.

4. Networks

Network refers to the system of linking two or more computing devices together for the purpose of sharing data. A network can be tie together computers in a specific area by using Wide Area Network (WAN), Local Area Network (LAN), Personal Area Network (PAN) and campus Area Network (CAN).

5. Procedures/ People

These are the commands for combining the components above, which help in processing information and producing the preferred output.

The first four components are together known as the information technology platform.
