A researcher is interested in seeing if playing violent video games leads to a change in aggressive attitudes. The researcher recruits an experimental group, who plays a violent video game for 1 hour, and a control group. Both groups complete a measurement instrument that measures their aggressive attitudes on a scale of 0-100.
A. What type of study design is this (descriptive, correlational, or experimental)?
B. What would be the appropriate statistical analysis to use in that situation (Chi-Square, Pearson correlation, one sample t-test, paired samples t-test, independent samples t-test, or ANOVA)?
A researcher is interested in seeing how a group of law school
students from a prestigious university compared in their scores on
the bar exam to other law school students who have taken it. The
researcher obtains data on the national average scores for
comparison and mean scores from 10 participants.
A. What type of study design is this (descriptive, correlational, or experimental)?
B. What would be the appropriate statistical analysis to use in that situation (Chi-Square, Pearson correlation, one sample t-test, paired samples t-test, independent samples t-test, or ANOVA)?
Descriptive study design,
It is a type of study which involves observation without effecting or influencing the subject in any way.
Eg : general questionnaire, interview, surveys
Correlational study design
In this study, researchers try to find out the relationship which the variables have with one another.
Eg: running and calories, i.e the more you run the more calories you will burn, there is a positive correlation between the two.
Experimental study design
Under this, one variable is deliberately changed for observing the effects of changes. In other words, one set of variable is kept constant and the other set is changed.
Eg: scientific test which involves observing the effects of independent variable on dependent variables.
Part 1
A) the type of study design used is experimental, since we have let the subject play a violent game in order to obseve its effect.
B) the appropriate statistical analysis to be used in this situation would be ANOVA.
ANOVA is used to test the differences between two groups.
