Celiac disease is a condition which results from immune reaction to gliadin, a gluten protein. This disease mainly affects the intestine and thereby results the malabsorption of minerals and nutrients. Celiac disease causes inflammation and destruction of lining of small intestine.
Anemia is a condition resulting from decreased RBCs ,decreased packed cell volume and decreased hemoglobin.It can be of many types like aplastic anemia, anemia of chronic diseases,nutrition deficiency anemia,hemolytic anemia,hemorrhagic anemia on the basis of their etiology. The most common anemia is iron deficiency anemia which is a nutrition deficiency anemia.
Celiac disease and anemia is interconnected because both celiac disease and anemia shows similar symptoms. Mainly nutrition deficiency anemia is caused by celiac disease .As this disease affect absorption of iron from intestine it cause iron deficiency anemia, as it cause malabsorption of protein ,folic acid, vitamin B12 this results protein deficiency anemia,megaloblastic anemia and pernicious anemia respectively.so celiac disease can be misunderstood as anemia as well.
