Solutions

Expert Solution

D. Earth's Axial Tilt

The Seasons are primarily caused by Earth's axial tilt.

Due to this tilting, areas receiving vertical Sun rays are changed through out the year.

Such as, in June, Northern Hemisphere tilted towards the sun, it is Northern Hemisphere summer. The length of day in Northern Hemisphere get longer. So, Northern Hemisphere receives more sun light. Southern Hemisphere receives less sun light because length of day get shorter. Northern Hemisphere becomes hotter and Southern hemisphere becomes cooler. In this condition, there is Summer in the northern hemisphere and winter in the southern hemisphere.

In December, Southern Hemisphere tilted towards the Sun, it is Southern Hemisphere summer, because in this condition Southern Hemisphere receives more Sun energy.

Due to this process, when there is summer in the Northern Hemisphere, then in the Southern Hemisphere there is winter. This causes seasons in the Earth.

If there is no tilting of the Earth's axis, then there is a uniform weather through out the year.

Other options given in the question are not primary cause of seasons.

That's all
