So there are cases where in terms of physics no work is being done while in real life we get tired and energy is consumed. For another example you are just holding suitcase in your hand is not moving. In terms of physics it just a case of simple force balance and there is no motion in the direction of motion hence work done is 0. while you get tired after some time just because your muscle contracts and expand to keep holding a body and displacement occurs in muscle so energy will be lost or consumed.

So if you are pushing a cart and it is displacing in the direction of force then work is said to be done but if by applying a force you are not able to displace it than no work is done but energy will be consumed and you will get tired.
