How do you run a regression to analyze estimate staring salary based on academic performance (GMAT score and GPA), gender, and years of work experience. How do you determine if each of the individual variables have a significant relationship with starting salaries?
Regression Model Step by Step in SPSS:
1) First, type the data variables in each column.
2) Then click on Analyse option on the above Menu bar and select the Regression option at 8 number then next select on linear then dialogue box come in your window.
3) Then in the dialogue box select the one dependent and another independent variable using the drag and drop option.
in our example dependent variable = salary and
Independent variables are,
a) GMAT score
b) GPA score
c) Gender
d) years of work experience.
4) Also, you want to check the assumptions of the regression model i.e. there are no outliers in the data. dependent variable follows the normal distribution all this assumption you can check easily in same dialogue bor in the right corner of dialogue box there are two option statistics and plots click on this and check assumption for all variable.
5) Finally, click on ok then will generate the results.
6) In the output first table become a Model summary Std Error, R square value if Adj R square value is more than 0.80 then model are very good.
From these R square value, you can identify the relation of dependent and independent variable high the value of Adj R square then the high relation between salary another variable
and if you want to check the relation of all independent variable with salary then you can use correlation compute for salary and gender, salary and GMAT score, salary and GPA score respectively.
7) Last answer table coming for ANOVA table using this you identify the regression model significant or not if p-value for the regression coefficient are less than 0.05 then variables are significant.
