a) “Sometimes obtaining a feasible solution is enough, and there’s no need to strive for reaching the optimal solution.” Please evaluate this statement and report: In which case would this statement hold true? Why?

b) “Solving a problem with modeling is a team effort.” Explain why this is a true statement. (Hint: You can refer to the different roles/information necessary for successful modeling).

Expert Solution

a)

Sometimes a feasible solution is enough. It can be explained with an example.

Sometimes we are in hurry to get a conclusion or worry about making a decision, at that time an immediate action will result to get the problem or worry solved. Good ability of decision making will help to solve the problem.

In onther example- If we are facing a problem for a long days or we are in trouble to get a solution for a problem, we will be very happy while we get a feasible solution from anywhere. This can happen in our daily life also.

Otherwise when we are in trouble for more days to get a solution, we are all blessed if we get atleast one solution.

This statement is true because this situation can happen anywhere.

b)

Solving a problem with modeling is a team effort. It is a very clear statement that solving problem with well planned will create a team effort effect. Well planned problem solving is very effective and it will help to complete the problem which will not arise in future.

It can explained by an example.

If two persons are trying to carry a extra weighted goods it may not possible. But making this happening leads to a team effort. So the problem solving is not a funny job it is an art of finding solutions to the complex problems.

We are thinking it is easy to do and we are starting to solve the problem without any planning. What will happen, this will create the problem much complicated. If we are well planned and prepared to solve the problem, then it can easily solve without any burdens. So this problem solving always reuslt as a team effort.

If water is pure enough and in a sufficiently smooth container, it can sometimes be “supercooled” so that it remains liquid for a time even when its temperature is lowered below its freezing point. (For this problem, you can use table 8.2 for heat capacities and may assume that they do not change with temperature.) (a) A beaker with 500 g liquid water initially at 10 ºC is placed in a freezer at –15 ºC, where the liquid supercools until...
