  1. Under what conditions are the angles of incidence greater than the refractive angles?

  1. Each medium has its own refractive index (n). For light that passes from air to another material, what effect does increasing the angle of incidence have on the refractive angle?

  1. Under what conditions is the angle of incidence greater than the refractive angle? And under what conditions is the angle of incidence less than the refractive angle?

Solutions

Expert Solution

R = rarer medium, D = denser medium

When light ray travels from Rarer medium to Denser medium, the light ray bends towards the normal, as the velocity of light decreases in denser medium. In this case the angle of incidence is greater than angle of refraction.

The relation between angle of incidence and angle of refraction is given by snell's law.

sin i is directly proportional to sinr.

The proportionality constant is Refractive index of a material.

Hence as angle of incidence increases angle of refraction also increases.

When a light ray travels from rarer medium to denser medium, the light ray bends towards the normal, as the velocity of light decreases in denser medium. The angle of incidence is greater than angle of refraction.

When a light ray travels from denser medium to rarer medium, the light ray bends away from the normal, as the velocity of light increases in rarer medium. The angle of incidence is less than angle of refraction.

Under normal market conditions, if your profits are greater than your average total costs, it is called making a profit and new firms try to enter the industry and existing firms expand. If your profits are lower than your average total costs, firms operate at a loss, and often exit the industry or contract. If your profit matches your average total cost, it is called breaking even and most firms operate at their current capacity. However, not all industries are...
