" The Red Convertible " is a story by Louise Erdrich which depicts the relationship dynamics between two brothers Lyman Lamartine and Henry. In which Henry were deployed in a Vietnam war and when he returned home he was a completely changed one and to bring back his old brother Henry , Layman tried various things such as dismantling his car , the red Convertible but he couldn't succeeded.
Therefore , in the process of bringing the old youthful behaviour of henry , Layman took Henry to a older place where they used to drive the car. There they drink and after drinking Henry felt hot , so he jumped to the river but the stream so fast that he drowned and drifted far away and finally been dead. But Layman doesn't wanted his brother to be alone , so , he jumped his car to the river to be with his brother and he kept the lights on so his brother gets the light , actually I interpret that Layman doesn't want that his brother live in darkness.
