1- How did Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity change the world? Address ethical and spiritual consequences.
2- What element were Michelson and Morley trying to find with their 20 years of experimentation? Why did Einstein say they couldn't find it?
3-
(1) before Einstein's theory of relativity, time was taken as sacrosanct. It was considered to be one quantity that continued without any change. But Einstein's theory set aside this pristine nature of time. According to it time was not same for every person or object. But rather it depends upon frame of reference.
Several of it's thought experiments, like grand father's paradox, presented big philosophical problems yet to be resolved.
(2) Michaelson and Morley were trying to find the mysterious supposed matter called aether which people thought filled the vacuum of space. The measured the speed of light in perpendicular directions to find the effect of motion of the aether medium.
After many repeated experiments they found the speed of light to be exactly same in the perpendicular directions. So there could not be a medium in which light was traveling.
This failure to detect the difference in speed of light led to conclude that they couldn't find any aether.
