Q. See Case Study F. Explain two reasons why workers are asked to fill out the required documentation in the form of feedback documents, in order to assess howwell they worked as a team. What good will this do?
CASE STUDY F
Conquer all - Tasks
Given the identified split in the packing department at Conquer All, management has decided to take action by asking workers to pair up with someone they don't know to work on some problem-solving activities.
The first activity is the well-known problem of the chicken, the fox, and the sack of grain. The farmer has to get each one to the other side of the river in his boat, but can only take one at a time. If he leaves the fox and the chicken together at any time, on either side of the river, the chicken will get eaten. Similarly, if the chicken and the grain are left together, then the grain will get eaten.
The teams are asked how the farmer can manage to transport his goods and companions to the other side of the river, while protecting each of them. The teams have five minutes to complete this task.
They are then asked to fill in feedback and summative forms to evaluate how well they worked together in a team, and to rate their communication out of 10. They are then expected to write down what they could have done better to solve the problem faster or more efficiently.
Answer:
Workers are asked to fill out the feedback forms for the following two reasons:
1. So as to make them realise how effective communication helps in problem solving skills. Rating themselves on the communication scale will help workers to understand the gap between solving problems in absence of effective communication and in presence of effective communication as a team.
2. Feedback document will also help workers in analysing what improvements they could bring in the process of solving the problems in the more efficient manner. This exercise will help them in realising the benefits of the team work for solving the problems.
The task given by the management of the company and the feedback form will help workers in realising how well they could perform in a team and how their job performance could be improved when they will work as a team rather than working in split. The exercise and the feedback form will also help workers to get associated with each other by forgetting their conflicts and focus on solving the problem in the fastest and the efficient manner. Development of the team work will help organisation in achieving the business objectives and its mission.
