Select which term is the outlier and explain why in a sentence or two. Also briefly explain what unites the other three terms.
Public Sphere
Domestic Sphere
Republican Motherhood
Cabinet appointments and divisions
The first three terms are closely related to each other.
The third term, which is "Republican motherhood", is used to refer to a certain attitude towards women that was prevalent during the American War of Independence, and also after it. The increasing involvement of women in education was encouraged but the role of women was restricted to that of educators for their children. The education imparted by women emphasized the responsibilities of women in the domestic sphere and those of men in the public or social sphere. Hence, the terms "public sphere" and "domestic sphere" are closely associated with the idea of Republican motherhood.
The clear outlier here is the fourth term "cabinet appointments and divisions".
Although the cabinet appointments and divisions took place after the creation of the United States Constitution in 1787, the term has very little in common with Republican motherhood. It has no relation with the concepts of the domestic and public spheres.
