The unethical practices affects the employees in particular and this may result in productive employees resigning and company may be left with unproductive employees and this may in turn result in lowering output and producing bad quality products which in turn damage brand image and lead to a vicious cycle.

Consequences for the company include:

a. Lower utilization of the resources of the company

b. Bad quality products

c. Unhappy customers

d. Brand value damage

e. Shareholder wealth depletion.

f. Market value degrading and finally

g. Company declaring bankruptcy

Finally the culture of the company will be unethical, this unethical culture may become more and more corruption within the company and this corruption can turn into something big like criminal activity.

For example, let us talk about the Enron scam. The company Enron was having unethical cultures which lead to the top management hiding and manipulating the financial statements to paint a rosy picture when the actual was very bad. This also had external auditors involved in the mess and finally led to closure of Enron and the US government passing new laws like the Sarbanes and Oxley Act of 2002.
