Did any of her family member got affected before and now ,because genetic factor and ethnicity are also precursors to otitis media.
Previous infection with otitis media.
Whether she gets allergic sinusitis often or any type of upper respiratory tract infections
Whether she went for swimming
Enquire her about any hearing issues now anf before
Do she keep her ear dry and clean after bathing
Did she had vomiting or diarrhea

What teaching would you reinforce to prevent the recurrence of otitis media?

A preventive regimen of a daily antibiotic during the fall, winter, and early spring months
Take pneumococcal and influenza vaccines regularly as prescribed by physician
Take treatment for any type of respiratory infection because it may be a precursor to otitis media
When swimming or taking bath dry ears to reduce risk of water pooling inside .
Donot use ear buds inside ear canal as it may pose a risk in affecting ear canal, just dry outside the canal
Stay outside of water until infection decreases.
If infected with respiratory infections donot suck the secretions to throat just blow out slowly via nose.
Donot pull or tug ears often.

The infection may get cleared after starting anitibiotics
Pain may get reduced
Hearing can be regained if there was any disturbances before
Fever , vomiting can subside if present before.
Patient will know about the risk factors of otitis media and she will not keep her ears wet, ,etc.
Donot put anything inside ear
She may choose for preventive regimen because otitis media can lead to permanent hearing loss, speech and language problems .
