Are the security needs of small businesses different than those of a larger corporation? Please support your answers.
The security policy is cmpletely dependent on the type of business a company is dealing in, naturally smaller company will not be investing heavy amount of investment on the security due to certain limitation whereas in a larger bigger corporation the data volumes are larger in number hence the investment in security is much larger. I do not comply to the fact that the smaller companies do not have to invest at all on the security, if there is online or data set on your network, even if the network connectivity is made public then it is to be secured. Any data loss or packet loss can turn out to be risky in the business.
Larger companies might get media attention and are more of a spotlight in the public but it is the smaller companies that falls under the prey of hackers. Recent study shows that an estimation of 43% cyber attacks were on smaller business. There are a lot of reasons why smaller business falls under the prey of cyber-attacks -
Underestimated Risk
Lack of Preparedness
Limited Security Budget
Using old technologies
So the need is the same as for both the smaller and bigger corporation but it is the amount of investment a company is putting in securing their data. The methodology might be different but securing the data is what each company is aiming for.
Thanks
