A scientist is having difficulty distinguishing between two closely spaces molecules using a microscope. Which of the following could he do to improve the resolution of his device? Increase the diameter of the microscope lens Increase the distance between the lens and the molecules Increase the wavelength of the light used to view the molecules

Solutions

Expert Solution

By increasing the diameter of the microscope lens , he can improve the resolution of microscope.

Explanation : The resolution of an optical microscope is defined as the shortest distance between two points on a specimen that can still be distinguished by the observer as separate entities.

Resolving power of a microscope =

where    is the angle of the cone    is refractive index .

So, when the diameter of lens (dependent on the value of   ) is increased then resolving power of microscope increases (as     increase when diameter of lens increase).

Note : Also from the equation, its clear that shorter wavelengths give more resolving power than the greater wavelengths

I'm having trouble distinguishing which of the interest rates, either nominal or real, central banks are able to control directly. Expanding on that, is there a difference between monetary policy's impact on short and long-run interest rates? I understand that monetary policy can control short-run nominal interest rates, but is the same true for long-run nominal interest rates? Do central banks have any control over real interest rates or only nominal? I am so confused. Essentially, what are the differences...

A function f : X ------> Y between two topological spaces ( X , TX ) and ( Y , TY ) is called a homeomorphism it has the following properties: a) f is a bijection (one - to- one and onto ) b) f is continuous c) the inverse fucntion f  -1 is continuous ( f is open mapping) A function with these three properties is sometimes called bicontinuous . if such a function exists, we say X and Y...

Distinguishing between an electrochemically reversible and irreversible electrode reaction can be done using cyclic voltammetry. Describe clearly and in detail how you can convert a fully reversible O/R electrochemical reaction into a irreversible or quasireversible reaction by varying parameters used in the CV experiment. Explain the reasoning behind your answer, and show using graphs how you would confirm that you have converted the reversible reaction into an irreversible one.

Let f : V mapped to W be a continuous function between two topological spaces V and W, so that (by definition) the preimage under f of every open set in W is open in V : Y is open in W implies f^−1(Y ) = {x in V | f(x) in Y } is open in V.
