Ryan steel considers himself a geek and a nerd. He just landed his first teaching assignment in a community that couldn't be further from his comfort zone if he were assigned to Mars. Ryan grew up in as mall, culturally homogeneos Midwestern farming town where everyone knows everyone else, and many of the residents are related to one or more other families in the commnnity. Ryran's first teaching job is in ta culturally diverse middle school in a an urban areas in the north central part of the country. Most of the students in his school are African American or Hispanic American, though Asian Ameican and Native Ameican students make up signaifiacnt minorities.
What kinds of classroom management problems might Tyan face as a result of cultural asynchronization between his background and that of his students?. What recommendations do youu have for Ryan to help him approach his new teaching assignemt with culturally responsive classroom management?
Very interesting question. Its quite common that Ryan being born and brought up in a small town , he is accustomed with the small decent peripheri of the peoples , the behaviours of them are known to him. But as he is now posted in a school where there is cosmopolitan culture , Ryan should gain the knowledge of this culture and should mixup with the students to understand their tastes and choices . Then only Ryan would be able to understand the dynamics of this cosmopolitan society and should increase the confidence to control the others. Some points are there which Ryan thinks are highly unethical , but he should give a 2nd thought in those matters to change the angle of view , which will help him to cooperate with these type of matters. For example--dress sense of girls , it matters for Ryan , he should give next thought in such things. Students way of talkings to him or some other things which Ryan finds unethical are actually ethical in the cosmopolitan culture.
