The defenders of a castle throw rocks down on their attackers from a 14 m high wall. If the rocks are thrown straight down with an initial speed of 6 m/s, hoe much faster are they moving when they hit the ground than if they were simply dropped? (m/s)

b.) if they throw the rocks straight up instead of straight down, how much faster are they moving than if they were just dropped? (m/s)

Solutions

Expert Solution

The answer may not be exact because of the approximated value used like 4.569 approximated to 4.57 . Again the value of g used is 9.8 but you can use it 10 also. Still if you encounter with any issues let me know in the comment below.

A 4.5 kg box slides down a 4.2-m -high frictionless hill, starting from rest, across a 2.3-m -wide horizontal surface, then hits a horizontal spring with spring constant 480 N/m . The other end of the spring is anchored against a wall. The ground under the spring is frictionless, but the 2.3-m-long horizontal surface is rough. The coefficient of kinetic friction of the box on this surface is 0.26. What is the speed of the box just before hitting the...

While exploring a castle, Exena the Exterminator is spotted by a dragon who chases her down a hallway. Exena runs into a room and attempts to swing the heavy door shut before the dragon gets her. The door is initially perpendicular to the wall, so it must be turned through 90∘ to close. The door has a height of 3.00 m and a width of 1.15 m , and its weight is 720 N .
