One of the main agents of socialization that had the biggest impact on me when it came to gender roles is media. It’s one of the most powerful agents of socialization that can either make or break the norms of the society through its ground breaking and innovative thoughts that would mostly confirm to the social norms while also break the norms by introducing new norms. Television and movies especially formed my attitudes towards gender roles as most of the movies or TV shows had the formal family setting in which the man is always the provider and protector while the woman works in the kitchen, with the kids, prepare things for the husband while also does the cleaning. The man has more power in the family while the woman is expected to align herself with the decisions of the man. Thus, media reinstates the gender roles developed by the society through various programmes that millions watch and internalize.
