Cisco has proven that it is capable of moving data across fiber at 10 exabytes per second. But today’s limited technology prevents that in most cases. In almost every organization, the need for speed (bandwidth) has outgrown the growth in bandwidth. As more data gets processed and data variety expands, it becomes increasingly difficult to encounter efficient data transfers. Research and discuss or present information about Google’s data center project, and why it is important and ultimately need for big data. Make sure you consider at least the following questions:  What exactly is Google’s data center project?  What is the goal of the project?  When was the project started?  How many data centers are there in the US as of now? Worldwide?  Do you think this project is a successful business model? Why?

A data centeris nothing but collection of networked computers and storage that organize, process , store and disseminate large amounts of data which useful for large organizations or businesses . Todays all businesses typically relies heavily upon the data contained within a data center and applications, services , making it very important asset for day to day operations.

Google data centers are the large data center uses to provide their services to google , which contains large amounts of digital storage that means mainly hard drives and SSDs, parallel lines of racks contains compute nodes, internal and external networking . They also think over environmental controls mainly cooling and dehumidification because as large no of compute nodes are there may increases the room temperature. Finally operations software for load balancing and fault tolerance.

Approximately 550 security professionals review security plans for all elements of the network, detect and manage vulnerabilities as Google deploys progressive layers of security around its physical locations, hardware and software. there is a internal audit team which scan for malware sites and monitors security regulations globally.

Google search engine launched in 1997

The goal is to keep all of Google’s products and services up and running around the clock and around the world very finaly without any waiting time or misguiding. Whenever you access your mails, edit your documents, search for information on Google or post an image to Google+ , you're using one of googles data centers with higher speed so you can have the power of a supercomputer at your fingertips.

Following are the data centers located at US

North America:

  • Council Bluffs, Iowa
  • Douglas County, Georgia

  • Hamina, Finland
  • St Ghislain, Belgium

Yes i think this project is successful business model because in 2016 google having 2.5 million servers approximately. This number, of course, is always changing as the company expands capacity day by day and refreshes its hardware. To maintain such large amount of networking web is such a big deal which google successfully manages. Not only that they thinking and successfully provide increased speed in accessing data because of which we can able to access data anywhere and everywhere with our fingertips. Also they look on security of data to minimise vulnerability.

Case study 1 – Total marks = 10 Facebook has around 2.38 billion active users across the world, which makes LinkedIn's user base of 630 million seem small in comparison.
