What type of structure exists in central Tennessee near Nashville? Geology
Thank you for asking. Let's try to answer this in the best way possible.
Basically, the geology of Tennessee can be separated into 3 main types of structures or land forms - plain valley, Highlands and Mountains. The central Tennessee of Nashville basin is quite famous for its Calcareous glades. These sort of structures are mainly due to the occurrence of limestones near or at the surface and have very less soil present. Due to the less development of soil in such structures or forms, it inhibits the growth of trees or other plants. Its formation can be traced back to the period beyond 300 million years old as due to the gradual accumulation of sediments. The sediments mainly consisted of deep ocean limestones having shale layers. Mississippian limestones are generally thicker than of the Ordovician. In the Ordovician, the Appalachian Mountains began to form and by the end of the Paleozoic were tall peaks. During the Pennsylvanian, the Cumberland Plateau formed along the edge of the Appalachians as beach and shore sediments. The Interior Low Plateau is a region in the Upper South is known for its calcareous glade communities.
I hope this will help you. In case if you have any problem, please feel free to ask. I'll be more than happy to help. Thanks again.
